Fire Blanket
Busy kitchens and canteen areas use a host of hazardous equipment that could become dangerous if they were left unattended. Think of deep fat fryers and traditional chip pans and you`ll have some idea of the types of cooking equipment that could catch fire if the cook in charge of them isn`t paying attention. I`ve actually witnessed a chip pan fire and it can be a scary incident to be involved in. At first you sort of freeze not knowing what to do but then common-sense kicks in and you react to the situation. When my chip fan caught fire I used a Fire Blanket to cover the flames. Left in position the blanket worked fine but my heart was thudding for a long time afterwards. Since that incident I now take more care when I`m cooking but I still have a Fire Blanket in my kitchen that can be used if my pans catch on fire again. The blanket workks by smothering the flames of the fire and starving it of the oxygen that it needs to keep on burning. Most industrial kitchens will have a Fire Blanket in place as well as a host of other fire safety equipment. It pays to provide this type of fire safety gear as you just never know when a blaze might break out.

Pat Testing
Before you plug that kettle in at work can you be sure that the right fuse has been fitted in the plug? The next time that you reach for your desk lamp are your sure the flex on the wiring is safe? There can be any number of electrical appliances placed within a work setting and any one of these items could be faulty. They`ll examine each item carefully checking for signs of wear and tear and they`ll make sure that the correct fuses have been fitted, flexes aren`t fraying and the appliances don`t show up any nasty results. If faults are found as part of the Pat Testing the appliance in question can be taken out of use. Suitable repairs can be carried out on it to make it safe or this doesn`t prove to be cost-effective the item can be scrapped and a suitable replacement can be bought. With annual Pat Testing employers can ensure that the electrical appliances that they have in their buildings are safe for their workers to use.
